How Sophia's Clean Came to Life

I remember the day so clearly back in 2017—the day I had to make one of the most daunting decisions of my life: resigning from my secure, full-time corporate job to take a leap of faith into the unknown world of entrepreneurship. It was a decision that filled me with uncertainty and fear. The financial stability I had worked so hard to build was now at risk, and the pressure was immense. But at the same time, my mental health was suffering, and I knew that something had to change. I spent countless hours contemplating the decision, going back and forth—should I stay in the comfort of my corporate job or take the risk and follow my passion?
It was a battle of comfort vs. growth.
Eventually, I realized it was a "Better to try and fail than never to try at all" moment. If I didn’t take that step, I knew I’d regret it forever.

Sophia’s Clean was born out of a spark of opportunity, and it wasn’t an easy journey. I started by managing my brother’s Airbnb properties, handling everything from cleaning to guest services. This worked wonderfully, and I quickly saw how cleanliness could make or break a guest's experience. But, during quieter periods when bookings were low, I faced a challenge: I needed something more consistent to support me year-round.

That’s when I decided to venture into residential cleaning. I posted my first promotion online, and to my surprise, the support was overwhelming. It was in that moment I realized I had a true passion for cleaning—not just for the work itself, but for creating spaces that people felt comfortable and happy in. This gave me the confidence to push further.

At that point, I knew I had to expand my reach and meet more people. I joined a local networking group—BNI (Business Network International). This turned out to be a game-changer for me. Through BNI, I met other like-minded people who supported my journey, and the business opportunities began to flow. I gained many wonderful clients and, more importantly, I learned how to present myself with confidence. Stepping out of my shell and pitching my services was something I’d never imagined I could do. I’ve grown so much, both personally and professionally, and it’s been an incredible transformation.​​
Today, Sophia’s Clean continues to grow and thrive. The work is harder than any corporate job I’ve ever had, but the sense of fulfilment and pride I feel every day is unmatched. There are moments when I get my hands dirty—literally—but it’s all worth it. Every challenge has made me stronger, and there are no regrets.

Looking ahead, I see my business expanding even more, serving clients across Cape Town, and continuing to provide exceptional cleaning services that make a real difference in people’s lives. My goal is to hire more passionate people, foster a supportive community, and build my network further. Most importantly, I want to inspire others to take that leap of faith, just as I did. If I can do it, so can anyone with the courage to pursue their dreams.
